I spent three years with JDC West. I competed on the Marketing team, then the Non-Profit Strategy team, and in my final year I was a Co-Captain. Upon graduation, I was pretty fortunate. All of the skills I learned and contacts I made through JDC West resulted in my getting an opportunity to interview with my present company. I started out in the Calgary office where I spent two years learning the recruitment trade. I had always wanted to work internationally so I interviewed for an International location. Presently, I work in Hong Kong managing the Accounting & Finance and IT recruitment teams.
I wholeheartedly believe that JDC West was the highlight of my university experience and played an instrumental part in where I am with my career at the moment.
I am so thankful I took that initial leap of faith and tried out, despite not knowing anyone who was involved. I was able to meet and become friends with some very smart, motivated people who had a vision for what they wanted to accomplish after their schooling. I got to interact with my professors in a more meaningful way and I learned the value of having good mentors. Most importantly, I learned to love public speaking and giving presentations. I have become good at creating an effective power point business plans. This is an area I have subsequently seen many people struggle with in the corporate world.
I couldn’t be happier with where my career is at right now. I am also grateful for the good friends I made and skills I learned during my JDC West experience. I highly recommend JDC West to all Business students.
