First year of University was a little scary for me, especially since I took 2 years off between high school and enrolling at UNBC. Finding out about JDC West early on, after only a couple of days exploring the University, was definitely my saving grace. I went to my first tryout and thought by far this is the craziest thing I have ever done. Making the Social team in my first year allowed me to come out of my shell and meet some really amazing people. After that, I was totally hooked and ended up competing on the Entrepreneurship team in my second year, Co-Captaining the team in my third year and competing on the Finance team in my fourth and final year at UNBC. JDC West was definitely the most valuable experience of my University career. It taught me how to network, public speak, volunteer, think critically and solve real life problems. The knowledge and skills that the JDC West program taught me have become invaluable now that I am working and out in the real world. Having been a Financial Advisor for 3 years now, I can definitely look back and say that I wouldn’t be in the same position without taking part in the JDC West team. It gave me the confidence to do my job and tackle the situations and issues I face every day at work. I have continued to stay involved even after I left University because I wanted to give back to the program that gave me so much. My experience and time spent at UNBC was absolutely enhanced by JDC West and I can’t even imagine doing my bachelor of commerce degree without it. I met so many amazing people along the way, many of who I have formed life long friendships with. I will continue to be involved for years to come as a mentor, coach and wherever the team thinks I can help out.
